I dug it up from a depth of just one and a half to two feet. The object is not magnetic. However, it is heavy. It feels almost like ceramic to the touch, though. The surface looks like some kind of fossilized organic material.
Has anyone seen something like this before, or does anyone have any idea what it could be?
Thanks!

Agree the ceramic-like surface plus non-magnetic heft points away from metallic slag. A weathered sedimentary nodule or fossil-bearing concretion seems more likely. A clean break or macro photo of any internal layering would help narrow it.
